How To Use Baking Soda To Clean Men's Silver Jewelry
Most men's silver jewelry cleaning
solutions contain inorganic chemicals that can be harmful to
the environment.
Although you do not really use a lot of these commercial
men's silver jewelry cleaning solutions to clean a few pieces
of jewelry, the fact still stands that when you get rid of the
used solutions, these used solutions still cause some degree of
pollution in the environment.
If you want to help take care of mother Earth by reducing
the amount of pollutants, you need to use organic substances in
cleaning your silver men's designer jewelry.
Instead of buying those chemical solutions, consider using
baking soda instead. Baking soda is biodegradable and do not
cause a lot of pollution in the environment. What is more
interesting about baking soda is that it is cheap and readily
available.
Getting Started
You do not need to buy a new pack of baking soda to clean
your men's silver jewelry. Just rummage through your kitchen
cupboard and use whatever baking soda you have in there.
Any brands of baking soda will do. You may also use some old
aluminum baking pan that you will no longer use to cook or
store food to hold your silver jewelry while you clean it. If
you do not have an old aluminum baking pans, you can just use
some old plastic dish lined with aluminum foil.
You can use your regular kitchen aluminum foil for this
purpose.
Once you have all the things that you need, you can get to
work. Boil enough water to submerge all the men's silver
jewelry that you want to clean. Put all the silver jewelry
pieces that you want to clean inside the old aluminum baking
pan or plastic wear line with aluminum foil.
All the jewelry pieces hold touch the aluminum. Sprinkle the
men's silver jewelry with baking soda. After putting baking
soda over the men's silver jewelry pieces into the pan or dish,
pour the boiling water into the pan or dish. At this point,
bubbles will appear on the pan and you place
will probably be filled with the smell of rotten-eggs.
When this happens, don't worry, the rotten egg smell is
actually the sulfuric gases released from your jewelry. To get
rid of the stink, open the windows and let fresh air in.
After five minutes, remove the jewelry from your baking soda
solution and rinse them in running water.
After cleaning your men's silver jewelry, buff
them with the use of cotton cloth and then store them is a dry
safe place.
